The electrical utility PNM and other parties signed the Public Regulation Commission’s $72 million rate hike that passed the committee on July 28, accepting less than what they had originally asked for.
The rate hike includes $72 million more in the first year and $178 million over three years, raising rates by 9.1 percent starting August 21. PNM said it accepted the offer because of the “risks and costs of litigation.” Average PNM consumers will see their bills increase by $1.26 per month, according to PNM. Customers of other Texas-New Mexico power companies will see rate increases of about $7 more per month.
PNM had asked for an $85 million rate hike with a $20 million rider for capital costs. The rate-hike battle started in June 2010 when PNM asked for a 21.2 percent increase in rates.
