‘Go Vote with the Governor’ rally one of many planned events to encourage early voting

Early voting is open until Saturday. Check your local early voting location at the Secretary of State Web site.

Presumably the Republicans feel the same way, but the Barack Obama campaign and Democrats around the state seem to really, really want you to know about early voting. That is why they are holding multiple rallies and events designed to get people to vote.

Gov. Bill Richardson will make a couple of appearances. In Santa Fe, Richardson will hold a “Go Vote with the Governor” rally at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday. Richardson will cast his ballot and meet with supporters at 130 Grant Ave., which is the Santa Fe County Clerk’s Office.

Richardson will also be in Albuquerque, at Central New Mexico Community College for a vote early rally, where he will speak to students and encourage them to vote. This will be Wednesday from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. outside the Student Services Building.

Democratic 1st Congressional District candidate Martin Heinrich will be at the rally as well.

But if you’re down south, you’ll get some love, too. Lt. Gov. Diane Denish will hold a lunchtime early vote rally and barbecue in Las Cruces at 200 E. Picacho Ave. That’s Johnson Park, for those of you familiar with the area.

All of which raises a big question: What are local Republicans doing to encourage early voting?
