Public Regulation Commission Chief of Staff Johnny Montoya has proposed limits to employee gas cards stemming from records showing Commissioner Jerome Block charged $5,000 in six weeks to his card, the Santa Fe New Mexican reports. Montoya is working to assign someone to review mileage sheets and integrate a system used in several other agencies warning a supervisor if charges exceed a certain limit or block the card at the point of sale.
When asked why the PRC doesn’t already use the alert and limit system used by other divisions, Montoya said, “I don’t know if anyone in my shop has ever asked those questions,” he said.
As for the person with new job duties, he or she, among other things, “will make sure every person fills out the appropriate log, what the mileage was when they left, and what it was when they returned,” Montoya said.
It’s common for credit card companies to lock out a customer’s account if he makes suspicious charges as well, so it makes sense for the PRC to do it.
In other Block news, Albuquerque Republican Rep. Nate Gentry asked the Attorney General’s Office for documents related to its investigation into the alleged gas card misuse.
