If you tell someone you filled up your gas tank, you will almost certainly get one response: "How much?"
Tom Udall attempts to tap into this frustration with his newest 30 second TV ad, "Right Now."
The ad, which will be unveiled on TV screens around the state today, is in line with many of Udall’s latest ads: It features no narrator, only Udall speaking to the screen with guitar music in the background. Like his other ads, he doesn’t mention his opponent, Steve Pearce.
Like his other ads since the primary, it will air unopposed on New Mexicans’ TV screens — Pearce has not yet aired a general election ad.
This one speaks about what can be done to lower those record-high gas prices; in New Mexico the average price of gasoline is currently $4.06 per gallon, the highest in the state’s history. Udall says that stopping "hedge fund speculators from driving up the price of oil" is one solution for chipping into the high gas prices. Udall also advocates encouraging oil companies to build "new clear refineries" or else lose their tax breaks. He also, unsurprisingly, advocates "get[ting] serious about alternative energy."
"I approve this message because record profits for big oil companies while we pay record prices for gas is wrong," Udall concludes in the ad.
