I was looking at a posting the other day that talked about ethics and the need for ethics reform in New Mexico. The article talked about former State Sen. Manny Aragon and the recently defeated Senate Republican Whip Lee Rawson. What I was shocked to see missing was any real discussion about the New Mexico Housing Authority and the people who are involved with it.
I started thinking about the last few elections and all the work of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) together with groups like ACORN and the ACLU working to make sure as many people vote as possible. These same organizations are working hard for a law that would no longer allow workers a free and open vote on the question of choosing to unionize.
Then we up and got a train — tracks, rail beds, locomotives, everything — but no one knew who was planning to pay for it, or how much it would cost. Then we were hit with the spaceport idea. Somebody convinced the governor and many members of the Legislature that it would be just dandy — and a great investment to boot — to build a takeoff and landing hub right in the middle of nowhere.
Now that the election is over and President-elect Barack Obama is getting his team ready, we should all take a deep breath and do something other than politics for a while. On the other hand, there are those of us who think about politics 24/7, 365 days a year, and to them I write this article.
Left-wing verbal terrorists like Congressman John Lewis should be held up to ridicule. They shouldn’t be taken seriously, as the ignorant, history-deprived media talking heads take them.
Fernando C. deBaca has resigned his post as Chairman of the Republican Party of Bernalillo County. But where were the Democrats when an elected member of their own party made equally offensive comments about Barack Obama?
I have to tell you how surprised I have been to hear Martin Heinrich claim he was not a lobbyist. If you are paid to influence elected officials, I believe that qualifies you as a lobbyist. There is no exception because you “lobbied on behalf of the environment.” Give me a break. Whenever Heinrich got his paycheck each month, you can bet it wasn’t signed by “The Environment.”
I have to begin by telling you how excited I am to be a Republican today. Senator John McCain has hit a homerun, or better yet, a grand slam. His choice for a running mate could not have been any better; Governor Sarah Palin is a superstar.
I am excited to see this young, dynamic woman [...]
Having just returned from what will probably be my last legislative session, I have to tell you I was amazed at how well the Democrats can stay on message nationally and locally.
We just finished a “special session” that was to deal with emergency issues facing our state. We actually did have one, the [...]
I write this knowing it will provoke a response from my fellow columnists and I’m happy to help get those creative juices flowing because God knows there’s nothing worse for a liberal than to have nothing to complain about. (Considering liberals, maybe I shouldn’t even use the term “God.”) As we’ve seen lately, if there’s [...]
