I am writing today to announce the closure of the New Mexico Independent. After three and a half years of operation in New Mexico, the board of the American Independent News Network, has decided to shift publication of its news…
Al Gore’s impassioned speech against climate change deniers in Colorado induced a frenzy of conservative chest-pounding last week wherein Fox News and the usual suspects swore his sermon must be a symptom of dementia. They went on to repeat the same misleading memes the ex-vice president decried in Aspen. Science, however, is on Gore’s side.
“They pay pseudo-scientists to pretend to be scientists to put out the message: ‘This climate thing, it’s nonsense,’” an impassioned Al Gore told attendees at the Aspen Institute Thursday. “Bullshit! ‘It may be sun spots.’ Bullshit! ‘It’s not getting warmer.’ Bullshit!”
More than halfway through a panel discussion before Republican rainmakers in Aspen, Texas Gov. Rick Perry, while extolling his own foreign policy credentials, referred to himself “as the president.” Recognizing his mistake, he repeated it, this time with a head-bobbing cackle straight out of former President George W. Bush’s playbook. Then he shot the crowd a knowing look and corrected himself.
