Folks in California thought Prop 8 would fail, until a final surge on election day proved them wrong. No one, I suppose, should ever again underestimate the insidious power of negative advertising directed at minorities or any other scapegoated group.

It’s back to the drawing board in California over the rights of gay couples. The citizens of that state continue their fight over gay marriage, passing an amendment to the state constitution yesterday that defines marriage as an institution solely between a man and a woman.

Medical marijuana hearing Monday
State public health officials will hold a hearing Monday in Santa Fe to gather public comment on proposed rules that will further streamline two aspects of the use of medical marijuana in the state: the licensure, distribution and manufacture of medical marijuana and patient identification cards.

Gay marriage legal in California today
Gay marriage becomes legal in California Monday at 5:01 p.m. (6:01 p.m. local time), one month after the California Supreme Court declared unconstitutional a same-sex marriage ban.
