With today’s announcement by Laurie Weahkee, the newest Native American superdelegate, Senator Barack Obama has ensured that all four Native American superdelegates support him. Yesterday he was endorsed by superdelegate Kalyn Free.
This is remarkable, and underscores Obama’s message of hope appeal to the leaders in the Indian Country. Frank LaMere, Nebraska superdelegate and chairman of the Democratic National Committee’s Native American Caucus, endorsed Senator Barack Obama for President in February. Obama also secured the endorsement on June 3 by Margarett Campbell, Montana Democratic Party vice chairwoman, who already had endorsed Obama, but had to withdrew due to state regulations.
Kalyn Free is a Choctaw of Oklahoma, Margarett Campbell is an Assiniboine Sioux of Fort Peck, Montana; Frank LaMere is a Winnebago of Nebraska;
Laurie Weakkee is Cochiti and Zuni Pueblo member from New Mexico.
