Lt. Gov. Diane Denish doesn’t appear to have given up on the idea of becoming governor of New Mexico before the 2010 election.
Pointing out that President-elect Barack Obama says he looks forward to Bill Richardson’s “future service to our country and in my administration,” Denish is characterizing Richardson’s withdrawal of his commerce secretary nomination as [...]
KUNM News Director Jim Williams recently sat down with several local reporters to talk over the big stories of 2008. And as you can imagine there was a lot to talk about: Barack Obama’s huge victory in otherwise purple New Mexico; the Democratic sweep in congressional races; the corruption scandal that ensnared a former powerful [...]
It must be tough times for the pool reporter covering Barack Obama on vacation when Obama, well, just isn’t doing anything incredibly newsworthy or interesting.
Exhibit A: a post from Mark Halperin, a political blogger for Time magazine. The headline blares, “Obama visits high school friend in Hawaii” while a link in the post links to [...]
But Albuquerque and New Mexico needs to do some old fashioned, grassroots, bottom up planning. When Forbes magazine last week ranked Albuquerque fifth in the nation in requests for Obama’s New Deal economic stimulus package, it was news to most folks in the state. Five days later, the Journal, in a solid copyrighted piece by Dan McKay ran a list of the proposed projects that Forbes said would cost $2.3 billion and create an estimated 5,181 jobs.
No surprise here, of course. New Mexico’s five presidential electors have officially cast their ballots for Barack Obama.
The state’s five electoral votes — never really in doubt past 7 p.m. on Election Day — are now officially in Obama’s column after yesterday’s vote.
The five electors were state Democratic Party officers: Chairman Brian Colón, Vice Chairwoman [...]
There have been two common themes about Gov. Bill Richardson and his probable new job as secretary of commerce: he was snubbed for secretary of state and, of course, what happened to the beard? Now we’ve got a third theme.
A column by former Richardson press secretary and Knight Ridder national correspondent Richard Parker takes a [...]
The U.S. Attorney’s Office has convened a federal grand jury to investigate dealings between the state and a California company that was paid almost $1.5 million for work related to a contract it won around the same time it donated $100,000 to political action committees formed by Gov. Bill Richardson.
Albuquerque Mayor Martin Chavez wants $1.6 billion from Barack Obama. Well, not in the way that Rod Blagojevich wanted money from politicians, but rather for the city government he leads.
KOB-TV reported that Chavez sent over the wish list at the request of Obama — for big-city mayors and the projects they want included in an [...]
Toby Keith, apparently, has a few friends who might be in Obama’s administration, including our very own governor, Bill Richardson.
According to 890 CDJC Country, a British Columbia, Canada station, the two “became buddies” while Keith was taping “Beer For My Horses” in New Mexico.
Commerce Secretary-designate Bill Richardson is holding a fundraiser in Washington on Thursday to try to pay off the debt from his unsuccessful presidential campaign. The fundraiser was first reported on today by The Politico, which had previously reported that Richardson was running out of time to pay off $150,000 in outstanding campaign debt because federal ethics laws would hamper his ability to raise money for himself once he officially becomes a member of Barack Obama’s cabinet.
