Nearly 200 have been recovered at crime scenes in Mexico and two guns were at the scene of the murder of Border Patrolman Brian Terry.

Sari Horwitz of the Washington Post reports on how the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives mishandled a gun-running sting along the U.S.-Mexico border termed Operation Fast and Furious. The agents were instructed not to arrest straw purchasers as they handed over semi-automatic weapons to middlemen. One of those guns ended up killing Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry on December 14, 2010 in Mexico.

Concealed weapons permit info is confidential in NM

By | 07.21.10 | 8:41 am

It’s unclear whether Robert Reza, the shooter in last week’s rampage that left two dead in Albuquerque, was one of the more than 17,000 individuals in New Mexico permitted to carry a concealed weapon. And you likely won’t ever know. Information about who can legally carry a concealed weapon in the state, including names, is confidential under state law (29-19-6, Subsection B). While New Mexico’s decision to make information on concealed-carry applications confidential appears in line with many surrounding states, it is by no means universal, a survey by The Independent has found.

Fears aside, gun rights thrive under Obama

By | 07.12.10 | 12:27 pm

Martinez carries a .45 every day, NM GOP boasts

By | 06.30.10 | 6:30 pm

Is it a coincidence that the NM GOP on Wednesday forwarded to reporters a story about how Republican gubernatorial candidate Martinez carries a .45—the same day that Martinez campaign strategists were struggling to brush off the news that a Martinez employee forwarded a joke in which a “New Mexican girl” shoots an Arab and a Mexican with her .45?

A Party spokeswoman says emphatically “yes,” but till, the coincidence made some cringe.

“The question is: Are they meaning to say that she just carries a .45— or are they really meaning to say, on this day, with this news, she also would throw a glass up in the air?” state Sen. Cisco McSorley, D-Albuquerque, said.
