A controversial political action committee didn’t violate any city ordinance when it failed to report to the city that it had raised money by telling people it was for the Las Cruces municipal election, Clerk Esther Martinez announced Wednesday.

Some activists who support Las Cruces City Councilor Sharon Thomas’ re-election bid have tried to label her opponent, Jim Harbison, a right-wing extremist because he has been involved in a political Web site on which some have advocated for violence. But even Thomas says Harbison is no extremist.
