State Auditor Hector Balderas will make a final decision on whether he’ll run for Senate within days, according to a Wednedsay afternoon report from NMPolitics.net. Balderas, a Democrat, previously said that he was “seriously considering” a run for the open seat.

Heinrich has $350,000 cash on hand

Democratic Senate candidate and current U.S. Representative Martin Heinrich reported nearly $349,832 cash on hand at the end of the first quarter after raising $350,615 between the beginning of the year and March 31. Heinrich officially announced his Senate run on April 2, after the end of the filing period.

New Mexico is the site of one of the country’s most competitive Senate races, according to Politico. The site’s monthly ranking shows New Mexico as the 8th most competitive race because of the candidacies of Democrat Rep. Martin Heinrich and Republican former Rep. Heather Wilson.

U.S. Rep. Martin Heinrich announced Saturday that he will run for U.S. Senate. Heinrich shared the news in a release and indicated he will meet with the press at the National Hispanic Cultural Center this afternoon following the annual Cesar Chavez march.
