Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama is going to air a second general-electionad in key states, including New Mexico. The 30-second spot will also air in "deep red" states like Georgia and Alaska, according to Talking Points Memo, a politically left political news blog.
The ad is clearly aimed at lower- and middle-class voters.
"He passed a law to move people from welfare to work, slashed the rolls by eighty percent," an announcer says in the ad, "passed tax cuts for workers, health care for kids."
The ad also looks to be an attempt to fight the perception of Obama as an elitist, as several Republicans have suggested in recent weeks, including Karl Rove.
The Obama ad says the Illinois senator worked his way through college and Harvard Law School, and when he graduated he, "Turned down big money offers and helped lift neighborhoods stung by job loss" after graduating from college and Harvard Law School while "working his way through college."
Obama and Republican presumptive nominee John McCain have both already began airing ads in New Mexico, which is considered by many to be a swing state. Most analysts have the state as either a toss-up or leaning towards Obama. CNN has the state as "Lean McCain," and is the only news outlet to do so.
