If you’re looking to get rich, Albuquerque might be a good place to set up shop.

According to Salary.com, Albuquerque ranks as one of the "top US cities for building personal net worth."  The site’s 2008 Salary Value Index took into account:

local salaries, cost of living, and unemployment relative to the national average. This year’s list also factored in qualitative measures including diversity of industry, education level of the cities’ population, proximity to post secondary institutions, percent of population below poverty level, and median travel time to work.

Plano, Texas took the top spot and was noted for having numerous corporate headquarters located in the city, as well as a  "nationally acclaimed public education system and well-educated, diverse residents."

Although Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco have some of the highest wages in the country, their cost of living landed them in the bottom five in the nation.

In describing Albuquerque, Salary.com states:

This fast growing city lying at the center of the New Mexico Technology Corridor, is the largest city in the state of New Mexico. Boasting a newly revitalized downtown area, Albuquerque is a major Southwestern city with a diverse population and some of the leading high tech research facilities in the country.

Albuquerque can add this ranking to its slew of list appearances.

Unfortunately, New Mexico as a whole has not fared as well in recent rankings
