RIO RANCHO — The National Republican Senatorial Committee (or NRSC) is set to attack U.S. Rep. Tom Udall, D-N.M. In a series of web ads aimed at superdelegates, the NRSC has already launched a video asking if Udall will vote for presidential candidate Barack Obama in the wake of Obama’s "bitter" comment.

In addition to the "video press release," the NRSC will also soon launch a Web site entitled Udall Against Us All. This is a play on Tom Udall’s campaign Web site name, Udall For Us All.

His two potential general election opponents, Republicans Steve Pearce and Heather Wilson, will both need the support of the NRSC, especially financially. Tom Udall outraised both GOP candidates combined in each of the last two fundraising quarters.

The counterpart of the NRSC, The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, holds a more than two-to-one cash advantage over the NRSC in the latest fundraising numbers.

The anti-Udall Web ad itself has not gained that much attention. The ad was added to the popular video Web site YouTube on April 15 and has just more than 230 views as of the afternoon of April 23.

The ad shows a fuzzy, slow-motion, zoomed-in view of Obama alongside the audio of Obama saying, "You go into some of these small downs… it’s not surprising then that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

The ad then shows Udall and asks if he, as a superdelegate, will "cast his vote for Barack Obama."

The Udall Against Us All Web site set up by the NRSC says Udall is "putting New Mexico jobs at risk."

Also targeted in the Web ads are Colorado Rep. Mark Udall, Louisiana Sen. Mary Landrieu, Minnesota Senate candidate Al Franken, former Virginia governor and current Senate candidate Mark Warner, Massachusetts Senator John Kerry and former Mississippi Governor and current Senate candidate Ronnie Musgrove.
